Blackwood Canyon Old School Winery Blackwood Canyon Winery is just outside of Richland in the Red Mountain Vitacultural Area (designated vinyard/winery location). It is somewhat legendary as an outlyer among wineries that usually try to impress folks.

This is Michael Moore, the owner. I think we know more about him than each other in the 30 minutes that we tasted wines: owns the most acreage on Red Mountain, graduated first in his class at UC Davis with excessive amounts of organic chemistry, just purchase a huge very expensive piece of property for his southern campus on Rincon Point in Ventura County just south of Santa Barbara, got a great deal but still paid 4 1/2 million; plans to open a bistro at Red Mountain next summer, but might just decide on the Santa Barbara site where he plans to fly in the best chefs in the world (his pals) week by week...

The winery looks A LOT better in the photographs than in reality. The pictures didn't capture the dirty fingernails that he used to filter when he poured, the glasses we shared(with him!)or the dandelion that we used to taste the vinegar! But gotta admit, the "old school" winery was definitely memorable.....and we bought his wine!!!!!
