The Procession Studio has opened!

Our community art studio opened to the public on March 20, providing a venue for creativity for anyone who wants to participate in the sixteenth annual Procession of the Species. 

The Procession was started in 1995 by a group of Olympia residents who wanted to organize an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Earth day and to support Congressional renewal of the Endangered Species Act. 

For the past sixteen years Olympians have been celebrating by creating species of all sorts and processing with joy and exuberance. According to their website, the Procession has grown from 800 participants and 3,000 spectators to over 2,500 participants and 35,000 onlookers in 2004. 

The studio has moved several times over the years, always making do with temporary locations. This year marks a new era with the acquisition of a permanent year-round studio located at 311 1/2 Capitol Way (behind the Royal Lounge. The studio door/entrance is located in the alley connecting Columbia to Capitol Way). Go visit and join in the community spirit!
