Welcome Spring!
I missed the bubble blowers at Olympia's 18th Annual Community Bubble Blow, but I met Gita Moulton one of the orginators of the event. In 1990 Gita founded S.P.E.E.C.H. (South Puget Environmental Education Clearing House), a local environmental group that publishes the local "Green Pages", a bi-monthly journal of environmental news and commentary.

She told me that in 1992s she and her colleagues were bogged down in serious environmental issues. They decided they needed to "lighten up."
So they organized the first Community Bubble Blow. Since then, every year for the past 18 year--rain, snow, or sunshine--they bring buckets of soapy water to Percival Landing at noon. For one hour everyone is invited to lighten up and make bubbles.

The Procession of the Species has recently become a sponsor of the event. Their community created windsocks and their banner announcing the opening of the new Procession Studio added to the festivities.

We've been having unseasonably warm weather in Olympia.
In early March we had our first " "swimmers" in olympia's only public water recreation facility: Heritage Fountain. You have to look closely to see the water spouting forth from canisters at the ground level.

I sat and sketched this vendor with his bright orange umbrella.
After watching me sketch and fall off my sketching stool he came over to talk to me.
While chatting he offered to trade of a sketch for some fish.

Sounds like a deal to me!
